Mr Eazi is an award-winning Nigerian singer, songwriter, and Entrepreneur. He is the pioneer of the popular Banku music and the founder of Empawa Africa.
Mr Eazi Background
Mr Eazi’s birth name is Oluwatosin Ajibade. He was born on the 19th of July 1991, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to Mr and Mrs Ajibade. Mr Ajibade is a Pilot and owns an aviation consulting firm while his wife owned a small business.
Mr Eazi attended primary and secondary school in Lagos. After which, he went to Ghana to study Mechanical Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University for Science and Technology (KNUST) at age 16.
While growing up, his father always played different music tracks while they had breakfast, and this inspired his love for music. He started recording music as a student at KNUST and later established a party and promotion company called Swagger Entertainment. He featured as a guest vocalist on the track My Life. The track gained traction in the whole of KNUST.
Mr Eazi graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a BSc Degree at age 23. After, he relocated back to Nigeria. As he returned to Nigeria, he started an e-commerce business and also worked with Schlumberger for a very short time.
As an entrepreneur, Mr Eazi has ventured into several businesses, including the importation of soft drinks, gold mining, and food distribution. He is currently dating one of Femi Otedola’s daughter – Temi Otedola.
Mr Eazi Music Career
He released his debut mixtape – About to Blow in July 2013, but it was when he released his single Skin Tight featuring Efya – a Ghanaian artist, that he gained international attention.
In November 2014, Mr Eazi released his second mixtape single – Bankulize. DJ Juls produced the song, and it features vocals from the Ghanaian hiplife artist – Pappy Kojo. It was this song that birthed Banku Music. Banku music can be described as a fusion of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian chord progressions and patterns. The official remix of Bankulize was released in September 2016, and featured Burna Boy.
Afterwards, he released his second mixtape Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra To Lagos, on the 10th of February 2017. The mixtape featured Tekno, Olamide, Phyno, Mugeez, Medikal, DJ Cuppy, Falz, and Big Lean. It was produced by Maleek Berry, Masterkraft, Legendury Beatz, and Young John.
Mr Eazi was one of the performing artists at the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. He signed a record deal with Diplo’s label – Mad Decent in March 2018. Afterwards, he signed a licensing deal with Universal Africa – a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. His music has been compared to that of Beres Hammond and Gregory Isaacs.

The platform also provides funding opportunities. Empawa Africa’s mission is to grow independent, emerging talented artists into Global Superstars. Joeboy, and Djerobie are products of Empawa Africa.
