Fifi was born in the year 1962 to a royal family in Ibadan, Nigeria. Her grand-father is King James Ekpo Bassey of Cobham Town in Calabar. 

Her father, a university professor at the University of Ibadan, Professor Sylvester Joseph Una was once a Minister of Health in Nigeria.
