    Career

Marty gained interest in his family business from a young age. After completing his high school education, he ventured into the industry as a full-time trapper. Unfortunately, it was difficult to perform his work in North Wisconsin because there were few animals to catch, making the competition high.

Initially, their idea was to move to Alaska to try trapping for a short period. However, as time went by, he continued falling in love with the land. Marty started doing several odd jobs to earn more money that will in return help in his trapping venture.

He started working as a janitor in Fairbanks. He also took construction and logging jobs to make more money for food and buy his first trap and tent. This would enable him to go trapping during his free time. After a short while, he built himself a small cabin that was easier to warm in cold Alaska.

He worked for a couple of years before quitting his job to focus on becoming a full-time trapper. Marty focused on setting trap lines and catching animals for fur. Most of these animals were based in an area 200 miles north of Fairbanks whose temperatures were 30-40 degrees below zero.

Since the state has short days and long nights in winter, he had to make the most of his time. In addition, Marty built three more cabins along his trap line. They came in handy in offering him shelter wherever his trapping work took him.

Eventually, his trapping endeavour caught up the eyes of the television producers. They approached him with a proposal to start a documentary series to showcase his trapping works. He landed an opportunity to make more money and showcase his passion.

This led to the creation of the series, Mountain Men which started airing in 2012. He was featured in the series to show how people survival while living in the remote areas around the United States. Marty resides in the small Alaskan town known as Two Rivers together with his family in the series.

He has earned the title of a smokejumper since he often uses parachutes to access different fire areas. He enjoys the job because it is not challenging for him as he is familiar with most of Alaska. In addition, the job comes in handy in providing extra income to support his wife and daughter.
